Second Life comes to NPR
Those who know me know that I am the tiniest bit of a video game nerd. I'll play just about anything, but one game that I just haven't been able to get into is Second Life. I love the concept: A virtual world where you can, after creating your own digital self, make your own clothes, buildings, and pretty much anything else you can imagine. Sounds perfect. Except the game is just incredibly boring. Every time I read an article touting how Second Life is the next big thing, I try to get into it, but I end up walking around naked, lost, and lonely on some island. I've come to the conclusion that Second Life is really not much more than a fantastic story that journalists can't resist.
So this morning when I was on my way into work it amused me to hear NPR Morning Edition's Steve Inskeep conduct an in-game interview with a Second Life consultant about the game. To hear a respected journalist complain about his awkward bodysuit costume and drive a fake Toyota Prius into a fake river, listen to the report at npr.org. It will be the most amusing thing you hear all day.
