Get Him Eat HimHailing from the great state of Rhode Island, Get Him Eat Him will humble you with their wealth of sandwich knowledge. Seriously. They have a sandwich blog. How cool is that? When they are not writing about the art of sandwiching, they make some pretty nice music that I think you will like. Their first album is coming out July 26 on Absolutly Kosher, and they are going out on tour like this very second.

This is the final link I will have about Grokster

I had made that decision with the Mark Cuban link, but Robert Cringley makes some good (and unique) points that should be read.

Also, the power in my house has been on the absoulte fritz this week. Like I'll be sitting there and all of the sudden half the outlets stop working and (even weirder) my car battery will be dead. My theory is that I am getting too close to the truth and they are trying to stop me. Who "they" are and what the "truth" is, I have no idea. But I will find out. The reason I am relating this is that I haven't been posting much mp3s. But tomorrow (Friday) I will post the full weeks worth, so look out!

The Unicorns are dead. Long live Islands.

Yeah so this was on pitchfork, so no doubt you've already seen it, but today was pretty crazy so I'm picking some low-hanging fruit on this one.

Read it al at The Simple Mission, where I stole this here mp3:

Are you using Last.FM?

No? Why not? If you are unfamiliar with the greatness of Audioscrobbler and Last.FM, consider this a public service announcement.

Audioscrobbler is essentially a plug-in for your media player of choice that records every song you play to a database. This in itself is pretty cool. You can find musical neighbors with your tastes and similar artists to those you already like (as an aside, it worries me a little when I have quite a few 15 year old girls as musical neighbors).

Then Last.FM takes your Audioscrobbler profile and makes dynamic radio stations for you. This has saved me many a day in cubicle world when I have forgotten my iPod. If you pay a little money, you can listen to music from your profile, or for free you can listen to your "profile radio," which is music from people in your musical neighborhood. I like this feature more, since I get to hear new stuff. The best part is, Last.fm just released a dedicated audio player, so now I don't have to keep the file open in my media player as well as keeping a browser window open to see what's playing. It is currently a .1 release, but I've had no problems with it so far. I really love it.

Scout Niblett

Kidnapped By Neptune, Scout Niblett's latest album, really caught me by suprise. Prior to hearing it, I'd only heard her singing on some of Songs:Ohia's records. Kidnapped By Neptune displays her considerable vocal range and drumming talents. I've heard people say she is a "Cat Power with a drum set," but that doesn't really do it for me. However, I think that if you like Cat Power, and you like drums, you'll like this song.

Mark CubanMark Cuban pretty much sums it up best in this extremely level headed blog post. The more I read Cuban's blog, the more I realize the man is much more than the eccentric owner of a basketball team who happens to be tragically infatuated with basketball themed football jerseys. We'd all do well to listen a little more closely to him.

Did you know they met in prison? Me neither!

Jim Guthrie

Jim GuthrieFirst off, I have no idea why Jim Guthrie is singing with Harvey the Rabbit in this picture. As far as I can tell, there are no rabbits in his band, but he's Canadian, so you never know. Jim Guthrie used to be in Royal City, and his solo work sounds like Royal City, but more cityfied. There are hints of Simon & Garfunkel and Paul Simon in his solo work that didn't show up in Royal City (and I mean that in a good way). His songwriting is strong and unpretentious, and repeatedly listenable.

Next iRiver to have Flash menus

This could be really awesome, or a recipe for disaster. iRiver's upcoming U10 model will have a Flash player installed on it. I hope that also means the screen will be nice and big. Imagine being able to create your own interface for your MP3 player. Then imagine it swooshing and zooming all over the place, making it impossible to use. It will be interesting to see what comes of this.

OMG OK GO

Totally stolen from Music For Robots. Ok Go is a pretty mediocre band overall, but this video totally makes up for any shortcomings.
